Hey! Put that back!

Fact #2

Fact #2

Australian swimmer Dawn Fraser won tons of medals, but her career came to an abrupt end at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, when she pulled a stunt that almost cause an International incident.
Fraser was celebrating yet another gold medal. Maybe she was celebrating a little too much. She climbed a flagpole at the Imperial palace and stole the Japanese flag. She was arrested at the scene by the police, but when they recognized her they dropped all charges and the emperor even let her keep the flag as a souvenir. Australian sports officials were not amused. They banned Fraser for 10 years, ending her career, but increasing her popularity. She was later elected to state parliament.

Fact #1

These facts are word for word.

The marathon is one of the marquee events of the games. People will do almost everything to win. In 1904, Fred Lorz crossed the finish line in St. Louis first. He was given a laurel wreath to celebrate. Guilt soon won out, and Lorz admitted the truth. He had developed cramps a few kilometres into the race, so he jumped into a car and hitched a ride most of the way. He figured it would be funny to jump out near the finish and win. The officials didn't share his sense of humour. They stripped him of the win and awarded the victory to Thomas Hicks of the U.S., who'd actually won the race.
